Artist Spotlight 2024: Taletta

This Vancouver-based, Canadian artist brings the combination of dreamy & grunge sounds paired with raw hard hitting lyrics to the soft rock indie scene. You can find sweet sounds of heartache on her debut album, Cruel Joke, while also finding upbeat love singles like “Soft Glow", which hit over 1.4 million streams last year. Come for the Julia Jacklin / The Cure / Boygenius vibes and stay for her quirky but adorable song transitions.

Your single ‘Soft Glow’ has garnered over 1.4 million streams to date on Spotify. Tell us a bit about your journey and process in achieving these numbers.

‘Soft Glow’ was my very first release as an artist and I had no idea what I was doing. I had been living in Australia studying songwriting beforehand & came back to Vancouver with the courage & intention of finally releasing music of my own. I had come up with the chorus of ‘Soft Glow’ years before the production of it and ended up working on it more thinking that maybe there was a fun song potential there. My friends Levi Shiach & Greg Wilkinson helped me figure out how to get the song to a place where it could be recorded. We ended up reaching out to local producer Harley Small who engineered, produced & mixed it and then the rest was history! For some odd reason Spotify found favour with ‘Soft Glow’ and has continually pushed it into streamers release radar’s ever since. To this day I still get messages from people who stumbled upon ‘Soft Glow’ telling me how much they love it!

Your album ‘Cruel Joke’ was released in 2021. What is your favourite song off of the album, and has that changed over time?

My favourite songs off of the album have definitely changed quite a bit throughout the process of making it & releasing it. Lyrically my favourite song is “Discarded” which I wrote with my friend Josiah Corbett. I'm instantly transported back to the intensity of emotion I felt while writing those lyrics whenever I sing it. Arrangement & production wise I would say that my favourite songs are “In The Summertime” & “We’re Just Strangers Now". I think those 2 hold up for me over time and I still love singing them live!

If you could collaborate on a song with anyone, Artist, Musician, Producer, etc. Who would it be?

Oh man, talk about a hard question! Haha… I would love to collab with Natalie Bergman or King Krule. They are so opposite stylistically but I think they would be fun people to dive into a creative process with! A producer I’d love to work with would be Jack Antonoff. He just seems so capable of highlighting an artist’s vision and bringing that vision to fruition. Those are just some of the many people I’d dream of working with!

With 2024 finally here, what are some of your goals as an Artist for this new year?

My main goal is to finally put out more music! I’m releasing an EP in the spring so I’m working on a release show, new merch, & everything entailed with the rollout of that.

If you could be a part of your own dream festival, could be with any artist from any time period/any genre. Who would be your top 3 acts on the festival?

I’m the worst at answering these types of questions because there are so many great artists out there but I will make an attempt -- Okay, this is going to be an eclectic group but I’m going to say… Dolly Parton, The Cure, & Natalie Bergman!
