Artist Spotlight: Mya Lowe
Mya Lowe is a Singer-Songwriter based in Vancouver, BC.
What inspired you to start making music, and who are some of your biggest musical influences?
My mom was singer growing up, so I guess she passed that gene on to me early on in my childhood. She was always singing me to sleep & harmonizing with me while we would sing to the radio. My grandfather was also a writer & loved music as well so I was always supported and encouraged by him as well. I’ve always been more creative and emotional so I started writing and combined the two! I think my biggest influences are definitely Taylor Swift for her writing and performing style, I just think she’s such a staple in the industry. As for my other influences: Lana Del Rey comes to mind, Avril Lavigne, Cigarettes After Sex & the Neighbourhood.
Your latest song ‘There She Goes’ was released earlier this year in March. Do you have more music coming out in the latter half of 2024? Tell us a bit about it if you’re able.
I do have more music coming out, I’m currently in the process of moving my sound to more pop and away from the Acoustic/Melancholic style. Although that style will always play a part in my sound. I’ve been experimenting with electronic sounds and beats while still keeping the fundamentals of storytelling and writing. I’m currently working on my 3rd single right now called “Hydras Revenge”.
What are some goals you have that you’d like to achieve in the next year?
I’d like to really discover myself as an artist, put out a project to really introduce myself. Keep writing and creating music that feels authentic to me and hopefully have the opportunity to share my music with a larger audience on a tour of some kind.
If you could collaborate on a song with anyone, Artist, Musician, Producer, etc. Who would it be?
I love dance music & DJ’s honestly, so I would love to collaborate on a track with Fred Again. His music is just so happy & I’d love to create a song that people can dance to.
If you could be a part of your own dream festival, could be with any artist from any time period/any genre. Who would be your top 3 acts on the festival?
Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse & The Beatles.
