January Artist Spotlight: KYOGA
We are kicking off a new year of our Artist Spotlight features with up and coming pop-punk band KYOGA. KYOGA is a four-piece band that formed in 2015 and is anchored by members of local bands Robots and Gods and Colour Surround. Their music is fun, fast, energetic and hard-hitting at times, spinning stories about love and it’s sometimes imminent downfall.
The band is known for its diversified and catchy melody pop-punk songs to it’s gang vocals with emotional turbulence that illustrate people’s daily struggles and stories of being a grownup, which is right on brand with how they came up with the band’s name. “KYOGA” is rooted from the Taiwanese heritage meaning “hopeless”, which they concluded was a nod to the infamous one-liner that they had always heard “playing in a band has no future”. Their twist on negativity and society’s perceptions has pushed them to do greater things in our local music scene.
KYOGA recently released their single “Let's Go” last November and are currently working on a self-recorded track, set for release in the new year. Not only have they been working away behind the scenes, but they've also been commanding stages around Vancouver. You may have caught them in full effect at venues like the Roxy Cabaret and the Railway Stage and Beer Cafe. You can keep up to date with the band’s upcoming releases and shows with the links below.
